#TheZone Kick Lotto Stats Extension for Google Chrome

The official #TheZone Kick Lotto Stats Extension for Google Chrome was released today! Put your nick in, and it will alert you of changes to your kick count, and allow you to view your rank and the Top 10.

Head over to its Chrome Extensions page to pick it up!

The extensions was coded by Tweak, and the GUI was developed by Darc. Syber, of course, is responsible for the creation of #TheZone's logo.

#TheZone KickStats Widget for Android

We have just released #TheZone KickStats Widget for Android! It is available in the Android market under that name.

#TheZone runs an hourly kick-lottery, where people chatting will be chosen to be randomly kicked. This widget allows for tracking of your current kick count and rank in the top10. Will add a screen shot later. :)

Kick stats was coded by Jay Baldwin (Darc) and Jorje Nava (Tweak) in June of 2010. TheZone logo is the creative work of Paul Sobel (Syber). Thanks to Jim Williams for input on design and functionality. :)

Unreal IRCd 3.2.8.1 Compromise Resolved

I woke up this morning to an email from one of our shell providers that Unreal IRCd 3.2.8.1 had been compromised from the download location on the Unreal IRCd website. The downloaded file was injected with a Trojan horse back-door virus. The incident gave remote hackers the power to run any command from the ssh shell that the user the IRCd was running as has permissions to run. This exploited vulnerability has no affect on connected users.

As a matter of precaution, we have deleted the entire infected source code, and used the cleaned source from Unreal IRCd to compile and install new IRCd instances on all our servers. All our servers are clean and unaffected as of this moment.

tZ iTunes and the tZ Script Family

tZ iTunes

tZTunes echo/controller script for mIRC is ready for initial use and testing. I am not aware of any bugs in the script, but we did not give it the 1.0 version number because there are still modifications we want to make to the script in order to consider it a completed version. As of this post's date, tZ iTunes is on version 0.7.2. I will be making various changes throughout the next few weeks, but only script improvements as far as standards for the tZ family of scripts that Syber and I are working on.

Functionality includes everything that my legacy WAR had for Winamp. For those interested, I will be porting WAR to the tZ script family. It will be rebranded tZ Winamp and will include various features that will compliment the script according to the tZ family architecture.

tZ Script Family

I've gotten a few questions from some people about the tZ scripts Syber and I have been writing recently. We're going to be publishing a family of scripts designed to enhance the mIRC experience. Like Syber's tZ mIRC Styles, these scripts will be branded to help advertise the network, but they will also follow a standard of quality hightened from scripts of our past.

In addition to higher quality standards, we seek to implement a few tZ Utilities that will help tZ scripts not interfere with other scripts, but also allow our users the ability to customize their experience and the interaction mIRC plays with other scripts. One of these additions is the new tZ FunctionKeys -- a script designed to act as a control panel for configuring the use of the function keys. tZ scripts will not directly contain aliases for the function keys any longer. (Those of you that used WAR for winamp remember tapping F10 simply sent the format you had selected to the current window, private message, or IRC channel.) Now, tZ Function Keys will handle all function key mapping. When you install a script such as tZ iTunes or the future tZ Winamp, the scripts will check the "default" key mappings in tZ Function Keys for currently mapped fields. If there is no mapping on that key, they will install themselves -- which you can configure through an easy to use dialog at any time. If there is already a key mapping there, the script will not overwrite it, but you can choose to do this manually later. tZ Function Keys displays every function key, and all available commands for that key.

Expect a completed version of tZ Function Keys in the coming weeks. A beta version is available in tZ iTunes.

We're also working on a module and web portal to allow the scripts to automatically update themselves by downloading newer versions and porting any configurations to whatever new format that may exist automatically. Naturally, the scripts will consult the user before performing any action like this.

Botto and tz Style Updates

I wanted to update you all and let you know that Botto got an update today. Syber and I added functionality to him to allow you common folk (read: non-operators) to submit topic suggestions. We also added a TinyURL link creator to him, and a help list. Message botto !? or !help for more information. /msg botto !help

Don't worry, if you forget, he'll welcome you and remind you of /msg botto !? when you enter the channel each time, so you'll be able to access this later as well. :)

In addition, Syber fixed something with tZ Styles, so head over to http://tzirc.com/media/p/287.aspx to get the newest version. There was a bug in the parsing of /part messages.

Also, the Network Motto has been altered to "F vip." F vip.

Scripts. Particularly mIRC Scripts.

So once again welcome to the new website. Yeah us! :D

I added an "mIRC Scripts" area over to the Media area. Click here. This is a place we can put scripts we write for the public to download. :) I'd like to see any of you scripters take scripts you've written (that are production ready, and modular -- as to not step on the toes of other scripts/scripters) and upload them to this area.

Somebody said, "what if I make xchat scripts, and not mIRC scripts?" Someone else said, "I know, right?" Well, bless God... we'll make a place for you too. If you want to upload some snippet of code, make sure you're legally allowed to (I don't want getting in trouble because you're a tool that can't read the GPL).

Anyway... if there are more sections (other types of scripts - xchat, etc) that you want to upload, write the section you desire in the comments of this post, and Syber or I will get to it when we have the time.

tzirc.com

We have registered the domain tzirc.com. This represents yet another step forward for our IRC network. During the discussions of what we wanted to do here with the new website, and our new server link (cloudnyne.net), we started kicking an idea around of getting a different domain name.

We will maintain thezoneirc.com as it sits, and it will continue to be updated accordingly. Both domains will essentially mirror each other. The idea is twofold. One is very simple: it gives you a much shorter domain to type into your browser or IRC client to join us. Secondly, it takes "TheZone" out of the domain/network name, to sort of downplay the focus of #TheZone. That channel will continue to be OUR focus (Syber, Darc), but we wanted to sort of make this whole thing "bigger" than just that channel. Afterall, we have an entire network operating around #TheZone as well, and our new community includes channels such as #Mind, and #AndroidCommunity.

With that being said, welcome to the new site. Register your asses and have a look around. If you find the site is slow, we apologize and are aware of this fact. We are currently in the process of securing newer hardware to help facilitate a better browsing experience around here.

First off, I want to wish you all a happy new year! We're sending 2008 away with a bang that says "You're So Yesterday" (in a non-Hillary Duff sense). This NEW year brings about a few changes on TheZone IRC Network. First of all, we've recently linked with MiND-net (irc.cloudnyne.net) and have welcomed old friends to the server. Uhh... you're reading this on the new site aren't you? Plus... we've added Botto to #thezone, adding new functionality that integrates quotes on the website with the channel and the channel's kick lotto with the website in a more community friendly, global kind of a way. We also have some really exciting plans for the future also... so keep watching. And keep chatting. Keep in #thezone. :)

So... today's the day that we put up this post about how we want you to blog. There are two main areas which you have the ability to currently partake.

Quotes - quotes from #TheZone that you think are funny and worth saving. We imported all the quotes from the old site, so there are things already there. Enjoy them.
Articles - articles that were found on the old version of thezoneirc.com. This is where Syber is hilarious, and pre talked about .NET encryption once. You can submit any useful / hilarious articles so long as they are ORIGINAL. We will remove ones that aren't, and then we'll remove your face equally as effectively. (And I hear its tough to continue blogging without a face, at which point we would also hate you. See? It's just not worth it.)

Anyway... Enjoy the content that's there, and I hope even more than you enjoy making new content (especially for the quotes....)
